Came in for a setup and left with a refret, leveled fretboard and a serious surgery making my Gibson R7 a completely different guitar. Ian Weston Worked His Magic – My Guitar’s Never Played Better.

I have always had a bit of a love-hate thing with this 1975 Fender Mustang. As you can see from the picture, there is not much original about it. Looks cool, but playing it? Well, that’s been another story—until I took it to Weston Guitars. Ian sent it through the PLEK machine then worked some of his magic on it. Now it feels like a totally different instrument. The action is buttery smooth, the intonation is spot-on, and suddenly, every note just sings.

He also added a little relief in the pick guard and neck so I could get at the truss rod without taking off the neck... Works great and looks awesome.

Ian really knows his stuff. He didn’t just dive in—he took the time to listen to what I wanted and gave me some solid advice. The result? A setup that’s better than I could’ve imagined. It’s like he unlocked the guitar’s potential that I never knew was there.

If your guitar needs some love and care, Ian’s your guy. He’s passionate, talented, and treats every instrument like it’s his own. Trust me, you’ll leave Weston Guitars with a smile and a guitar that’s ready to rock!

As others have said, the guitar came back to me better than new. The action is now ridiculously low and sounds amazing.

The price is up there, but Ian gets it done right the first time as opposed to paying 80-100$ several times for mediocre results. Turn around time was also very fast considering the quality of the work.

Highly recommended if you want a setup to be done above and beyond regular setups.

"High quality repairs with care and attention to detail!"

My Taylor RS-XXX developed 2 cracks in the back a number of years ago. At that time I was referred to another repair location in Ottawa. When I received the guitar back I was told the cracks were repaired, but I would always see and feel them on the back of the body. Turns out the cracks were never repaired and started to grow. After contacting the manufacturer again, I was referred to Ian at Weston Instruments.

I made an appointment with Ian and travelled the 4 and 1/2 hours to his shop to review the repair. Ian explained all of what was required to repair the cracks including letting me know that to bring the finish back once the repair was complete all of the 20 year finish aging would be lost and the back of the body would appear as it had when new. This attention to detail gave me a much better understanding of the commitment Ian had towards the way he approaches all of his work and I left my sweet lady in his capable hands.

Ian kept me informed well throughout the repair process even sending me pictures of the repair before I made an appointment to pick her up.

I took the trek back to Ottawa and can tell you that the work Ian did was outstanding. There was no indication of the repair ever being needed. She had her original, like new finish again.

Ian's attention to deal went so far that he even matched the exact same wood to cleat the crack in order to keep the tone as close as possible to the original.

Very rarely do we come across people this committed to their craft and doing the job as if they were working on their own instrument. I can not recommend Ian any higher than "The Best of The Best". If you need work on your instruments, do not hesitate to contact Weston Instruments. You will not be disappointed.
