Took my mother’s childhood violin to The Sound Post so it could be restored. It was in bad condition. The gentleman I spoke with walked me through the restoration process and gave me an estimate. It took 3 months to complete the restoration and worth the wait. A young lady that works there agreed to play a beautiful piece and allow me to record her so I could send the video to my mother. So happy with the results and the care and love that was put into the restoration of this piece of my family’s history.

Excellent service, my daughter was sized and set up with a violin rental efficiently and with great care. We were taught the basics of how to treat the instrument and just generally made to feel very welcomed. Anna was so lovely!

I don't know how they are in person, and according to many reviews I have glanced at, they are ''wonderful'', but I will review my experience of ordering something online from the Toronto branch.

It was not such a bad one -- initially -- but after putting my order through, I received an email from them: they dared asked me for a ''picture ID'' in order to deliver it!!?! Seriously, who does that!! That was goodbye for me at that point. I've ordered from a variety of businesses plenty of time, and my photo ID is never something required! Companies just want your address and your money. Nothing else.

I found another company that had what I was looking for, and guess what? Not only they didn't ask for any picture ID but aside from the credit card name which would have given my full name away, they didn't even know anything other than my first name during our several back and forth emails. The Sound Post lost a customer for good, as soon as they asked for my picture ID. No thanks! Granted, I have to admit that they were quick to fully cancel my order - which was appreciated. Hence the 2 stars.

Outstanding staff and service for string players at all levels. The go-to place for supplies, instruments, repairs and advice, or just to make connections. David Doyle is a very highly skilled violinist and luthier, and his staff are all players with a full understanding of their instruments. The Sound Post is well known and beloved in the Ottawa music community. They treat their customers with friendliness and respect.
